A poem- Escapee

Escapee

Angels cast tombstone shadows
Never laughing at the irony
That undying love can drown

They found him by the river
Wooden nickels covered his eyes
He wanted to die like an animal, alone

He screamed her name toward the water
As they dragged him to salvation
And buried him deep in dreams, again
